September guarantee data returns

In these unprecedented times, there are challenges in collating the September guarantee data, which requires local authorities to find education and training places for 16- and 17-year-olds.

The Department for Education (DfE)  has informed Haringey Council  that they are aware of the current challenges, however they are still expecting as much data as possible in regard to identify where young people are moving post Year 11 and 12, especially with this current climate as there are expectations of higher NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and unknowns.

If you have already returned your spreadsheet with your students’ data, thank you for this. For those of you who have not, please could you send this information as soon as possible so that we can ensure we are engaged with you in tracking these students.

The closing date for the September Guarantee data is at the end of June 2020. If you have any queries about this, please contact Paul Kirsarkye, Raising the Participation Age Coordinator, on 07971 308100  or email: Paul.Kirsarkye@Haringey.gov.uk

Haringey Community Gold

Haringey Community Gold is committed to supporting young people in Haringey and has successfully delivered a range of workshops in Dukes Aldridge Academy, Heartlands High School and The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL).

Whether it’s workshops to support your students around PSHE, youth work activities across the borough during lockdown, summer holiday activities or help as students move on from your school after year 11, the Haringey Community Gold outreach Team can help.

We are currently engaging young people over the phone to discuss their next steps, whether that’s accessing a space to talk, finding a course, registering with colleges/training opportunities, keeping fit and meeting new people in their local community or finding out about apprenticeship and employment openings.

Please contact the team at hcg@haringey.gov.uk.

Free car parking for all school staff

The council has agreed that all school staff will have free parking until the end of the school year, August 2020. From September 2020 onwards, schools will need to purchase Essential Service Permits (ESPs) for their staff and, again, we have extended the scheme to all school staff. Full details of how schools can apply for this were sent to schools in the week beginning 8 June 2020.

Year 6 transition – Early Transfer Form (ETF)

Thank you to all schools which have already submitted their Early Transfer Form (ETF) and uploaded it via the S2S website.

Secondary Transfer ETF letter to Primary schools 2020

There are still a number of schools who have not submitted their form. If you are not aware of the process for transferring Year 6 pupil information to their Year 7 destination school then can I ask that you kindly read the attached letter dated 21 April 2020 which was emailed to all schools.

The deadline has now passed and so it is essential that we receive this information by no later than Friday 12 June 2020. If we do not meet this new deadline then this will create difficulties for secondary schools in making preparations to welcome your year 6 pupils.

If you are experiencing any difficulties in completing the spreadsheet then please contact my colleague Chi Tsang (telephone 020 8489 2553) who will be able to assist you further.

Many thanks.

Term Dates for the academic years 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24

The consultation on the term dates for the academic years 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 closed on 3 April 2020. Thank you to all those who responded.

In proposing these dates, we liaised with neighbouring local authorities about proposals for school term dates in their areas. In doing this we seek to ensure school holidays coincide across borough boundaries to avoid the potential disruption and attendance issues that may arise for families if local schools use differing school calendars.

The results of the consultation were submitted to the Schools Employee Consultative Group (SCG) and the final dates have been agreed with regard to all the representation made through the consultation. The term dates are now available to view on the Haringey website for the academic years 2021-24

Nominate your Haringey Hero

Do you know someone who is making a real different in your community during the coronavirus pandemic? The Mayor of Haringey Cllr Sheila Peacock has launched the Haringey Heroes Awards to celebrate Haringey’s unsung heroes.

Residents are encouraged to nominate someone who has helped them during the outbreak – it could be a volunteer, a bus driver, their local GP surgery, a family member, or anyone who has gone the extra mile to brighten up their day.

The nominated person may have helped with food shopping, picked up their mail, walked their dog or collected prescriptions – or even someone who has helped ease their loneliness by having regular conversations with them. You have until the end of August to nominate. All nominees will receive a certificate thanking them for their efforts to support the community during these unprecendented times. A badge of honour will also be awarded to candidates who have shown an outstanding contribution during the outbreak.

Do you know of someone who has made a difference in the community? If so, why not nominate them as a Haringey Hero?

Find out more and nominate someone using this link.
