Haringey VAWG services consultation – events

We’re currently consulting on all our existing violence against women and girls (VAWG) services to ensure that we have a model that’s effective for Haringey.

As part of this process, we’re consulting with providers, agencies, professionals and residents (including service users and ex-service users).

The VAWG team are holding three virtual consultation meetings and an online confidential survey. For more information, please read the letter below from the team:

BASHH ASIG safeguarding education event on 21 January 2021

The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) is organising an Adolescent Special Interest Group (ASIG) safeguarding education event – a virtual study day delivered via Zoom- on Indicators, management and long-term effects of childhood abuse on

The Money House – taster session on Wednesday 20 January 2021

Haringey recently commissioned a contract with The Money House and is looking for referrals for young people who might benefit from the service.

The Money House is running a virtual taster session for potential referrers on Microsoft Teams at 10:30am on Wednesday 20 January.

What is The Money House?

The Money House offers a 5-day training course to help young people become savvy for independent living. Covering all they need to know about household costs, tenancies, utilities, avoiding eviction, budgeting, borrowing, banking, how to boost their income and much more – young people will feel leaving on top their bank balance, and their future.

There are no lectures, no judgements, no tricky maths – just straight up, fun, and easy to understand money tips and money talk. Young people will gain a Level 1 accreditation in Personal Money Management to add to their CV and we will reimburse travel and lunch at the end of each day. The Money House has proven impact on improving young people’s tenancy sustainment, financial confidence, and money management.

South Harringay Primary School PSA, ‘The Friends of South Harringay’ received great national press coverage for their ADVENTure trail over the weekend.

The PSA organised a living advent trail of Christmas themed decorated front windows,  which featured in articles in The Guardian and The Daily Mail.

Achieving Better Community (ABC) – educational events for parents

Enfield and Haringey have commissioned a series of parent education events under the umbrella of ABC (Achieving Better Community). The aim of these sessions is to build on local initiatives e.g. NMUH ABC parents, Health Visiting GP link protocol:

  • improving parents’ knowledge of health and wellbeing of a child
  • increasing social networks and support for parents to decrease isolation and anxiety
  • empowering parents to share advice and knowledge to maintain and manage the health and wellbeing of their children
  • improve mental health and wellbeing of parents
  • improve consistency of health care messages to parents from health care professionals.

These are unique sessions which help parents, carers and families gain important parenting skills. For example, what to do in an emergency, such as if your child stops breathing?

Christmas card competition for Art GCSE students

Here’s a challenge for all talented Art GCSE students. 

The Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Joe Ejiofor is holding a competition for students to design his official Christmas card for 2020. The competition is open to all year 10 and 11 students studying Art at a Haringey school. 

All ideas are welcome and students can be as creative as they like, but the design must be something that represents ‘Christmas’ to the student. 

Designs should be A5 size or can be larger but will be reduced to A5 size for printing. The closing date is Monday 16 November 2020.  Please scan and email your entries to Leader@haringey.gov.uk
