A message from the team at Alexandra Palace
As your school adapts to the ‘new normal’ we wanted to let you know that we are here for you! We understand that school trips and enrichment opportunities might not be high on your list of priorities right now, but we will continue to deliver online resources, webinars and activities and a bespoke outdoor learning provision to support you.
We now regularly update our website with resources produced in partnership with industry experts, creatives and leading learning specialists so do keep an eye out.
Here are four activities that you might have missed during lock down that you can do with your class themed around sustainability and environmentalism, getting outdoors, local history and reading and writing. We hope you find them useful!
Have you considered outdoor learning?
There has never been a better time to get young people learning outside!
Our park has been a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people during lock down. So, if your school is having problems finding enough space to meet social distancing measures, you might consider working with Alexandra Palace’s outdoor learning experts to design a bespoke programme to help your pupils learn safely in our park.
And want to hear from you too. Let us know how Alexandra Palace can help your children back at school, learning and having fun. Read more here
Pantoland is bereft – the pandemic has taken the wind out of the sails of even the most resilient fairy. Over at Panto HQ the phones just won’t stop ringing. Costumes are no longer covid compliant, the props are all problematic (not enough anti-bac), even the modes of transport are proving difficult. That is until they receive a letter from Covidella asking for some help.
Watch a traditional pantomime that will get you shouting at the screen and singing along at school. The panto is performed by the MTA theatre school based at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.
School licences are now available. One fee offers the licence for a week to play in all your classroom bubbles. You can even sell on the licence via your school’s PTA in order to raise some much needed additional funds for your school
Contact info@theMTA.co.uk for more details.
Discounted licences are available for Haringey schools.
Streaming week will be 14 -18 December 2020
BOOK YOUR PLACE NOW- 2 day Professional Training programme – August or September dates available.
What is Outside the Box?
Outside the Box is a personal development programme for vulnerable young people, to support them with healthy relationship and sexual health . The programme comprises eight interactive workshop sessions, delivered by specially trained practitioners, to small groups of young people (or individuals) aged from 11 – 18 years old. The sessions cover a wide range of issues including consent, sexual health and services, gender, sexual orientation, relationships and sexual exploitation.
Recruiting practitioners
To deliver Outside the Box, professionals need to join one of our training programmes. To be eligible for the training, practitioners need to be working with vulnerable young people, and to have access to young people with whom they can deliver sessions either remotely or in workshops over a series of sessions. The course is suitable for multi-disciplinary practitioners such as youth workers, social workers, teachers and nurses. On completion, participants will receive a certificate and the course can count towards their continuing professional development.
How are places booked for the training?
Managers will need to indicate their support and practitioners must fulfil the criteria above.

Haringey Community Gold Summer 2020 offer
A wide range of activities are on offer for young people in Haringey this summer under the Haringey Community Gold Scheme.
Haringey received the biggest amount of funding in the first round of the Mayor’s Young Londoners Fund (external link) to deliver our Haringey Community Gold scheme to support young people to discover their talent and fulfil their potential.
Haringey Community Gold uses a strengths-based public health approach to engaging young people and benefits from a network of connected community programmes to listen to and respond to young people.
The programme is made up of detached youth work and community programmes and it allows young people to find local provisions which range from sports, training and employment, future leaders programme, mental health support and a BAME careers service.
The three-year funded programme’s outreach workers work closely with schools, youth clubs and the voluntary sector. Young people can choose which programmes they are interested in to create a bespoke experience for themselves.
Children’s Art Week runs from 29 June – 19 July 2020 and is a UK-wide programme run by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education.
This annual campaign encourages venues and schools to participate in activities that capture children’s imaginations and encourages creativity. Children’s Art Week creates an opportunity for children to engage with the arts – and your school can take part.
There are countless benefits for children and young people in working with artworks, artists and galleries, demonstrated through ground-breaking programmes run by Engage as well as many other organisations. Many schools use Children’s Art Week as a way to bring more arts activity into the school curriculum, whether by working with an artist, curating an exhibition of children’s work, or dedicating that week to a programme of arts activity.
In 2020, Children’s Art Week will take place online, at home and in schools across three weeks in June and July. Each week will focus on a special theme.
2020 themes
Week 1 (from 29 June): The Natural World
Week 2 (from 6 July): Connecting across generations
Week 3 (from 13 July): Literacy and creative writing

This year the London Youth Games are taking place virtually! The LYG Virtual Games give children and young people the chance to represent their boroughs in a series of sport-related challenges that can be done at home, at school or while out for daily exercise.
Haringey currently stands in 8th place as we enter the final week of the games.
The LYG Virtual Games are open to all children and young people from London, who will compete across the 12 different challenges to earn points for their boroughs. All the challenges will come with suggested adaptations for space, equipment and ability to ensure they are as inclusive as possible. After the final challenge, the winning borough will be crowned the first ever LYG Virtual Games champions. Individual prizes are also up for grabs.

Alexandra Palace is buzzing about books!
Every year Haringey Libraries and Haringey Schools Librarians Group teams up with Alexandra Palace to encourage young people aged 9–12 years old (years 5 – 7) to take the Biblio-Buzz challenge.
The project aims to inspire children to learn the joys of reading by challenging them to complete six books, before voting for their favourite. Along the way they can attend workshops and reading circles as well as have the opportunity to meet the shortlisted authors.
Biblio-Buzz will culminate in a festival at Alexandra Palace on Sunday 29 March, and the Children’s Book Awards on Monday 30 March hosted by Michael Rosen.
The shortlisted books for 2020 are:
