FREE Wellbeing for Schools Workshop 3 July

3 July 2018 at 17:30 – 19:30 – Chestnut Grove Academy, 45 Chestnut Grove, SW12 8JZ

Register here (external link).   Password: Chestnut

‘From April 2017 to March 2018, the number of teachers seeking support increased by 35%. A third of education professionals felt stressed most or all of the time in the past few weeks, compared to 18% of the UK workforce overall….53% of teachers have considered leaving the sector within the past two years because of health pressures….There is a current shortfall of 30,000 in teacher numbers.’ (NEU Survey, 2018)

Staff wellbeing must become a key priority for all schools, both to restore teaching as a profession, which continues to be rewarding to current employees and to attract passionate people who can be a force for good in our society.

This workshop is a product of the collaboration between the London Healthy Workplace Charter and Chestnut Grove Academy with the aim of providing inspiration and practical advice for school leaders and teachers who would like to promote and enhance staff wellbeing in their schools. The academy has always prioritised staff well-being and sought ways of improving it and the Charter has enabled them to continue doing this in a more structured and holistic way.

Our keynote speaker, Viv Grant, the author of Staying a Head: The Stress Management Secrets of Successful School Leaders and an experienced coach of senior leaders in schools will discuss what constitutes vocational vitality in the teaching profession and what kind of individual and collaborative engagement is needed to nurture it. The participants will also hear the accounts of two London schools’ wellbeing journeys from their senior leaders and have plenty of opportunity to meet leaders and teachers dedicated to improving staff wellbeing from a number of schools in London.

Join us at this event for ideas on best practice, networking and accessing free support from the Mayor’s Office for making your school a healthier and happier place to work.

Refreshments will be provided.

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

You may be aware that June is Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History month. Lord Adonis first endorsed a national Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month in June back in 2008, and he welcomed the opportunity to raise awareness and explore the history, culture and language of these communities.

Resources to support you in celebrating this history are available here (external link) including a free education history resource pack.  Please make use of these resources to promote positive imagery and challenge stereotypes as part of the celebration of the history of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.
