Free HALS online courses for the Autumn term

New Haringey Adult Learning (HALS) courses are now available online and are still FREE! The new term starts 13 September. It’s a great opportunity to upskill or reskill. Visit the HALS website to view a full list of Autumn term courses and register for your free place today. Upskill, learn something new or just keep connected and make new friends. From Maths and English to IT to Accountancy/Bookkeeping and many more, there is something for everyone! What will you learn this September?

Ana started with HALS in 2019 by doing a childminding qualification which she could study around her own childcare responsibilities for two young children. She enjoyed the course greatly but with Spanish being her first language, she was advised by her tutor to improve her English skills as this would help her boost both her confidence and employability. Ana completed both her Level 1 and level 2 Functional Skills English over the next year achieving a strong pass and then decided to turn her attention to her Maths skills which had always been an area of challenge for her.

Ana said of her studies:

“It’s up to you. You need to focus and think this is what you want and this is what you have to do. You have to set your own goals.”

Having seen her husband working and studying at the same time also with HALS, Ana wants to make the most of her time while she is still at home looking after the children to upgrade her skills and get ready for re-entering the workforce once her children enter full time schooling. Ana plans to continue improving her Maths this September. Join her, sign up to a course today.

Enjoy summer fun with the Haringey Treasure Hunt

To welcome everyone back to the high street and to encourage people to explore local shops, Haringey Council is organising a series of family friendly Treasure Hunt Summer Trails. Five ‘town centres’ across Haringey will be participating: Crouch End, Tottenham High Road, Muswell Hill, Tottenham Phillip Lane and Myddleton Road in Bounds Green.

The first trail kicks off in Crouch End from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July and there are some fantastic prizes to be won, including a recording session, family football kit, hampers and more. To play, simply pick up a treasure map from a participating shop or business. You can find out who is participating here.

Armed with your treasure map, visit the businesses on the map. Find the clues and answers to the questions on the map in the various shop and business windows in each area.

Simply write your answer on the back of the map, explore the shop and say the correct answer to shop staff. The right answer will get you a stamp on your map to show you have found the treasure. You will have three days to guess all the clues in each town centre. Join us on 2 July in Crouch End for some summer fun.
