Ana started with HALS in 2019 by doing a childminding qualification which she could study around her own childcare responsibilities for two young children. She enjoyed the course greatly but with Spanish being her first language, she was advised by her tutor to improve her English skills as this would help her boost both her confidence and employability. Ana completed both her Level 1 and level 2 Functional Skills English over the next year achieving a strong pass and then decided to turn her attention to her Maths skills which had always been an area of challenge for her.
Ana said of her studies:
“It’s up to you. You need to focus and think this is what you want and this is what you have to do. You have to set your own goals.”
Having seen her husband working and studying at the same time also with HALS, Ana wants to make the most of her time while she is still at home looking after the children to upgrade her skills and get ready for re-entering the workforce once her children enter full time schooling.
