Three Haringey schools were winners at TfL’s STARS Top School’s awards event at City Hall this week. The awards were given to schools who are doing brilliant work to encourage students and staff to walk, cycle, scoot or use public transport for their journey to and from school rather than driving.
The three winning schools were:
- Stamford Hill Primary School who won ‘School of the Region north London’ for promoting healthy lifestyles and working with local communities and charities.
- Crowland Primary School who won ‘Excellence in Walking’ for increasing the number of pupils walking by 13% from last year using their 5 minute Walking Zone map and creating a school song
- Rhodes Avenue Primary School who won ‘Excellence in Scooting’ have 28% of pupils scooting to school and under 4% travelling by car despite increasing in size.
Elin Weston, Haringey’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families.said, “This is a fantastic achievement for Haringey schools and shows the progress we are making to be one of the most walking and cycling friendly borough in London.”
