Draw your favourite place in Haringey – competition for years 5 and 6

Next Monday 28 February sees the launch of an exciting drawing competition open to all children in years 5 and 6 across Haringey’s primary schools. Running until the beginning of May, the competition will ask children to draw a picture of their favourite place in Haringey – from the beautiful views of Haringey’s parks and green spaces to vibrant cultural hubs across the borough’s high streets and community spaces.

In addition to the winning design featuring on displays across the borough, we have an exciting set of prizes for the winner and two runners up to choose from – including tickets to ice skating at Alexandra Palace, a tour of Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium, and various items of Tottenham Hotspur memorabilia!

The competition will form part of our work to develop a new borough plan for Haringey. This is an important central strategy document which will set out our key priorities for the borough for the next four years. It’s important to us that we involve the borough’s children and young people in this process.

We’ll be emailing all Haringey primary schools next Monday with more information about the competition and contact details of the relevant council team for any questions. We’d anticipate that schools should be able to run this competition as part of delivering their PHSE curricula – in particular, as part of curricula on living in the wider world and mental and physical wellbeing, by prompting children to think about their place within their communities and pride in their local area.

We’re really excited to see what children across the borough come up with, and thank you in advance for your support in getting Haringey’s children involved. We know we have some budding Picassos out there – so now is the chance for them to get their artist hats on and let their creative juices flow!
