October is International Walking Month
A timely reminder to encourage all your new families to walk, not drive to the school. Please remember to collect the Hands Up Survey from all of your classes. Use this sheet or log onto STARS to open the survey and create a link to send to all tutors. If you can all do this now, we can complete our School Street Survey before the end of the year.
- Hari bear could be hiding in your school key stage one class somewhere (we lost two of our special Hari bears last year – is he with you?)
- Contact Wendy Thorogood for the resources that cost nothing to get your key stage one pupils excited and moving, as well as reducing cars at the gate.
- Contact Wendy to organise Orienteering in a park near your school, this would be a fun extra walking activity to get all the class out for an Autumn Activity.
Accreditations
You will soon be receiving an email with the Accreditation Stars that you have earned. These should be added to your school website, used in emails and letters, just like the Healthy Schools accreditation
Training
We want to hold training sessions with you and your new Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTA). Please use this presentation and application forms to recruit your new team members.
We can come and present their JTA badges and help with their first assembly plan – this should be based on Be Bright and Be Seen.
Vision Zero
The Mayor of London and TfL have an ambitious plan to have Zero traffic related issues by 2040.
We have put together a great bundle of resources, please contact Halema.uddin@haringey.gov.uk to receive them. Let her know what your plans are to improve Road Safety awareness in your school.
Safe Drive Stay Alive 2020
Important message to every educational provider for students aged 16 and over. We are proud to say we are supporting Safe Drive Stay Alive again so hold the date. The events will be held at The Bernie Grant Arts Centre on 16, 17 and 18 March 2020. Send your applications in as soon as possible. There are limited spaces, so book now to avoid disappointment.
STARS Training Sessions
If your accreditation is expiring this year or your school did not get accredited last year, don’t worry! We will be holding training sessions throughout the year, but the earlier you get involved, the higher your accreditation.
Walk Zones and School Streets are the hot topics. So, if you don’t have a walk zone and want one, email me to book a training session. The minimum requirement is that you have completed a Whole School Hands UP survey and it is on STARS.
School Streets will not be considered at your school unless you have at least completed Bronze level activities on STARS for this year. We will help you every step of the way.
Cycling
Continue to use Cycle Confident to book your students cycle skills lessons for bikeability and beyond. Ask about the Adult cycling sessions too.
Bike Markets and Try Before you Bike
We have commissioned Peddle My Wheels to operate bike markets in our borough. Bring along your unloved/outgrown bike and if they can make it road worthy, they will and offer it for sale at a bike market – you receive the proceeds. Their website has dates of all bike markets available.
The same company facilitate our residents to try out a bike and pay monthly on a rent to buy scheme. Check their website to see how this extremely easy scheme works.
Cycle to Work Scheme
