School Streets – Travel Plans and Parking Permits

We know this is high on the agenda for a lot of our schools. We need you all to complete your Hands Up survey on this site too, please take a look and if you need support that contact me smarter.travel@haringey.gov.uk
The assessment of each school in the borough is about to commence. An independent company will be visiting each primary school over the coming months. They will be assessing the parking situation and the general geography and signs and lines for each school, in line with our criteria. This will help us prioritise school street projects to where they will make a good impact and improve the health and wellbeing of both pupils and residents. Only schools that are active on STARS will be considered for the school street project. Don’t feel left out, anyone can do this, it is a free service and we support you. Please check to see who your School Travel Plan Coordinator is. They can help with and travel issues you think need to be looked at. Check out TfL Stars to see the accreditation status of your school.
If you have any comments to make about your school, please send them to Wendy Thorogood at smarter.travel@haringey.gov.uk and add them as an issue on TfL STARS.

Road Safety Week

Register on the Brake Road Safety Website to receive your FREE Action Pack for Road Safety Week https://www.roadsafetyweek.org.uk/action-pack or for your younger students Brake Zebra Day https://brakezebras.org/beep.
If you would like us to come and talk to your students about road safety, we have a limited number of spaces for assemblies. Or you could use this presentation and JTA recruitment to deliver the messages.

Cycling and bikes

Please remember to book you cycle skills sessions for students from age 9 and above, even secondary school and college! Plus, parents and staff at schools can take part too.  www.cycleconfident.com
In addition to this we are working with Peddle My Wheels for the following amazing offer:
Public Bike Markets at Tottenham Green Market on 3 November and 7 December. Bring along your unwanted bikes or buy one from them.

Try Before You Bike

In addition, we have organised Try Before You Bike, an exciting scheme supported by Haringey Council that allows you to hire a brand-new bike for from £10 a month until you either own or return the bike. A wide range of bikes are available including standard, electric and now children’s bikes– there is something for everyone!
Children’s bike – from £10 a month
Standard adult bike – £20 a month
Electric bike – £50 a month
Electric cargo bike – £100 a month
Adapted bike – £100 a month

Peddle My Wheels deliver the bike fully assembled TO YOUR DOOR or requested location (it could be your school) so gone are worries of buying online and having to assemble it yourself, or worrying about how you are going to get your bike from the bike shop to your house if it is too far to cycle!
On delivery of your new bike you will receive a personalised 2-hour cycle training session helping you to build confidence and familiarity with your new ride.  Peddle My Wheels also offer further guidance after your hire/purchase such as route suggestions or help with your commute.
If at any point you decide you no longer want the bike, you can cancel your hire and Peddle My Wheels will collect the bike from you with nothing more to pay
If you wish to sign up, please click through to Peddle My Wheel’s site for more information and to get started: https://www.peddlemywheels.com/try-before-you-bike
