The Gaming Connection – online youth club for autism support

The Gaming Connection is the Haringey Language and Autism Support team’s online youth club. The sessions give young people with an autism diagnosis and an interest in gaming, the opportunity to converse online with the idea of widening their social circle.

The club was set up to encourage young people aged 14-19 to comfortably discuss their special interests and to socialise while taking part in quizzes and open discussions via Microsoft Teams.

We ran the club throughout lockdown and found that the attendees engaged well due to the various methods of communication (chat, microphone and camera). We also included the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and incorporated a home exercise routine into our sessions – which was positively received.

If you have a student who would be interested in joining The Gaming Connection, please email john.chamberlain@haringey.gov.uk

Educational Visits UK – Winter days out in London

Educational Visits UK Days Out London – Winter Magazine is a seasonal digital magazine (ezine) promoting what is happening regionally in museums and attractions to schools.

Teachers can access the latest events, online workshops and new ideas for school trips, the majority of the which has been provided by the museums/attractions themselves.

We have also included a section about what is happening in the school holidays for parents which schools can forward on to them. The objective is to keep everyone safe and informed of what’s on over the winter period as well as helping the tourism industry recover after what has been a difficult two years.

Child flu vaccine – Haringey catch-up clinics

Flu can be very dangerous and this winter more people are likely to get flu because fewer of us have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, research shows you’re more likely to become seriously ill.

Getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will provide protection for you and those around you against both these serious illnesses.

Although many children will not become seriously ill with flu, children play a large role in spreading flu infection in the community. All children aged 2 to 15 (but not 16 years or older) on 31 August 2021 can now get a free flu vaccine, which is being offered to them at school.

If for any reason your child missed out on their flu vaccine at school, Vaccination UK is running catch-up clinics for flu and other routine vaccines including HPV, DTP and ACWY.

FLU: Reception to Year 11            HPV: Year 8                     DTP & ACWY: Year 9

These clinics will be running on an APPOINTMENT ONLY basis.

If parents/carers would like their child to attend, they need to call Vaccination UK on 020 8017 7925 or email: haringey@v-uk.co.uk to make an appointment.

Monday 20 December 10:00-14:00 Selby Centre, Selby Road, Tottenham, London N17 8JL
Wednesday 22 December 10:00-14:00 Freehold Community Centre, Sydney Road, Muswell Hill, N10 2NT
