We support and encourage all our schools to reduce their use of plastic wherever possible. Please get In touch with me if you have any initiatives in your school that support this aim. In the meantime, the following links include information that either directly or indirectly helps to reduce the use of plastic.
- Surfers against Sewage runs the Plastic Free Schools initiative. While targeted at schools in coastal areas, it contains useful information on how to reduce plastic use.
- Stopping the use of glitter in the run up to Christmas Projects to make plastic-free Christmas tree decorations, using natural materials scavenged from the school’s grounds or recycled items.
- Book to educate children about the impact of plastic pollution on marine life
- Swapping individual milk cartons for recyclable four-pint containers
- Haringey has signed up to Refill London in partnership with the Mayor of London. This initiative encourages local businesses to sign up to an app to promote the availability of free drinking water at their establishment. The scheme aims to reduce plastic waste and encourages people to re-use water bottles, which they can fill up at Refill stations. Once this scheme is established, we will promote it to our schools.
