An after-school programme in Haringey which helps children improve their reading and writing has celebrated its first birthday by winning Haringey’s Community Impact Award for Improving the lives of Children and Young People.
Haringey Pirates creates published projects from the children’s writing each term and a fantasy film script they have been working on, which has been animated, will be screened in March in the Rio Cinema.
The charity has recruited nearly 100 local residents to give more than 2,000 volunteer hours to support 200 children from ten local schools.
