The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) has produced some literacy resources to support primary schools. The resources, which will be sent directly to schools, comprise:
- Two reports offering guidance on literacy teaching for primary-age children – Improving Literacy in Key Stage 1(external link) and Improving Literacy in Key Stage 2(external link).
- Each of these reports comes with a poster summarising their key recommendations.
- They have also included a poster version of the current Sutton Trust/EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit, used by some two-thirds of senior leaders in schools to inform their decision making. The full toolkit is freely available online on the EEF website(external link)
Both the Improving Literacy reports offer practical, evidence-based recommendations which are relevant to all pupils, especially those struggling with their literacy. To develop the recommendations, EEF reviewed the best available international research and consulted experts to arrive at key principles for effective literacy teaching. Each report focuses on key areas which can make a significant difference to pupils’ learning.
