Deputy Mayor of London, Joanne McCartney (who is the member of the London Assembly, representing Enfield and Haringey), and British Paralympian shot putter, Vanessa Wallace, who lives and trains in Haringey, visited Ferry Lane Primary to celebrate the schools’ participation in The Daily Mile initiative (external link), which is supported by the Mayor of London’s Healthy Schools London programme.
The guests enjoyed visiting and watching the pupils taking part in the Daily Mile activities. Vanessa spoke about her experiences and achievements as a British Paralympian athlete and showing the children some of her medals.
The visit came after Joanne McCartney met staff members at an award ceremony to present Ferry Lane with a silver award for “Healthy Schools” (external link). Joanne spoke about the work she does in her role as Mayor for Education and Childcare.
Headteacher Lisa Rawashdeh commented:
“We were very excited when Joanne said she wanted to visit and to welcome a British Paralympian here too really made the pupils’ day. We all know the benefits of taking regular exercise and The Daily Mile is a simple and free way to encourage children out of the class for 15 minutes every day to do some exercise at their own pace.”
