The Chad Gordon Autism Campus is set to open in Waltheof Gardens N17 this summer following its transformation into an autism-friendly space.
Significant investment has been made to ensure life enhancing services are available for adults in our borough with autism and learning difficulties in a comfortable setting. Extensive works have now been completed to remodel the two buildings on the campus site, and to provide a garden that service users can enjoy, ready for its opening this summer.
The architects worked together with autism carers and local stakeholders to ensure the space met the needs of those using the service.
The building designs have been influenced by the sensory needs of people with autism, including adaptable mood lighting to create a calm environment when needed.
The new design encourages an easier flow throughout the buildings and features a brand-new training kitchen, along with rooms suitable for a range of group sizes. The campus will be home to two new services; the Haringey Opportunities Project which provides a day service for adults with complex learning difficulties and autism and the #ActuallyHaringey Autism Hub which is co-produced with autistic residents and community groups.
The campus, named in memory of ‘loving and caring’ autistic resident Chad Gordon who was tragically killed last year, will feature a commemorative tree and plaque that will be laid by Chad’s family on 10 May to celebrate the launch of the new centres.
