NHS Blood and Transplant has developed free teaching resources (external link) to educate and engage Key Stage 3 and 4 students (11-16 year olds) about organ and tissue donation, using interactive activities and personal stories.
NHS Blood and Transplant is responsible for promoting organ and tissue donation in the UK. There are currently around 6,400 people in the UK on the transplant waiting list, their lives on hold while they wait for a phone call to say a match has been found. Sadly, three people die every day in need of a transplant.
Developed with teachers, the resources include lesson plans and materials, each linked to the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) National Curriculum.
The recent launch of the consultation into organ donation in England has sparked interest and debate about organ donation.
