Summary of attainment in Haringey 2017 (provisional)

Overall, there is a strong improvement trend in the primary phase with many areas now in line with 2016 London Top quartile (LTQ) figures and elements at KS2 in line with 2017 LTQ (as yet there is only 2017 London data for comparison at KS2 and only for attainment). Where Haringey is not in line with LTQ, the gap is closing strongly.

This is fabulous news for Haringey’s children and young people. Congratulations to leaders, staff and governors in all of our schools.

The GCSE data is highly provisional with no combined English and Maths figures as yet for comparison.

Results at KS5 are a more complex picture due to the changes in tariff for BTEC but provisional figures show Haringey to remain well above national averages across most grades, despite some dips from an exceptional year in 2016.

Narrative Summary by Phase

Early Years Foundation Stage

  • Haringey’s GLD 74% has improved from last year and is higher than LTQ  2016 and national.
  • Weakest groups for attainment are: SEN, EAL, Turkish, White Other, FSM and Boys

Phonics year 1

  • Haringey improved to 83%, compared to a national which has dropped.
  • FSM, SEN, White Other, Turkish and Summer born were lowest groups

Key Stage 1

  • All subjects remain above the national and especially so at the higher standard. Writing slightly dipped but remains strong against national.
  • At the higher standard all subjects were above the 2016 LTQ.
  • Weakest groups were disadvantaged, SEN, White Other, Black Caribbean and Turkish pupils

Key Stage 2

  • An improvement in each of Reading, Maths and GPS from last year, particularly Reading.
  • Writing slightly lower than last year.
  • Above the national figure in all subjects at both Expected standard and higher standard and particularly strong at the higher standard.
  • Improvement has seen subjects closing the gap against 2017 LTQ at the expected standard and meeting or exceeding it at the higher standard (Reading, GPS and RWM combined are in line with LTQ and Writing and Maths have exceeded it)
  • Weakest groups are Disadvantaged, SEN, White Other, Black Caribbean and Turkish

Key Stage 2 Progress

  • Progress scores remain strong in all subjects, above national and showing improvement for Reading and Maths but not quite hitting 2016 LTQ. Significant improvement in Reading progress (an area of weakness last year).

GCSE

  • Attainment 8 averaged to 46.4. Different measure to 2016 where Att 8 was 50.1.
  • 58% pupils getting 5 or more grade 4+ inc E&M, same as 2016
  • 63% getting Grade 4+ in both English and Maths, same as 2016
  • EBACC dropped to 23% from 28%.
  • No national figures for comparison yet of combined English and Maths.

Post 16

  • A-levels are in-line with national for top grades (A*-A) at 26.3% and are well above national for lower grades. We are down slightly on 2016, though this was an exceptional set of results and the trend of improvement and outcomes are still very positive.
  • Compared to last year, using A-level results and the previous tariff for BTecs, we are down a little for Bs and Cs, though up a fraction for overall A*-E
  • The new tariff for BTecs pulls us down quite significantly for top grades (from 37% down to 28% for A*-A) but are unchanged for other grades. We still have to wait and see what the impact of the new tariff on results is nationally and in London.

An overview of primary achievement figures for each school has already been sent to Headteachers and is to be sent to Chairs of Governors. Further comparative data which takes account of school context is also being provided to support schools and governors in comparing their achievement data against schools with a similar context.

An overview of secondary achievement figures will be sent to secondary schools subject to a data transparency agreement and when further national data is published.
