Secondary Transfer 2017: help with chasing parents of year 6 pupils

FAO all Haringey Primary Schools

A big thank you to all who have been helping us chase parents of yr 6 pupils who did not respond to the acceptance of a school place by the acceptance deadline (15 March). As you can appreciate, there continues to be some movement with pupils offered their higher preference school or moving away and we will update you again with a final destination list in due course.

There are still a small number of parents with yr 6 pupils at your school that have not yet responded to the offer of a secondary school place and members of the School Admissions team have made several attempts to contact them (including two reminder emails, phone calls, letters to the home address).

We will soon be uploading a spreadsheet with details of all yr 6 pupils currently at your school who have not accepted their school offer. This will be uploaded via the Document Exchange in the week commencing 8 May 2017. I would be grateful if you could please assist us with chasing these applicants so we can ensure that the correct secondary schools receive their transition data in good time.

If you have any information regarding these pupils, please do let us know as soon as possible so we can update our records.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

Regards,

Carlo Kodsi

Starting Reception 2017 – Haringey families celebrate primary school offers

Primary National Offer Day on 18 April saw all 2,959 Haringey applicants offered a place at a school in the borough – with 91% given their first preference, 98% offered one of their top three, and 99% offered one of their six preferences.

Haringey’s figures were well above the London average, which saw just 86% of children offered their first preference and 97% offered a place at one of their six preferences. Figures from London Councils also show Haringey has moved up to fourth of 33 London boroughs for offering first-place preferences, above neighbouring boroughs Barnet, Islington, Hackney, Camden and Enfield.

Councillor Weston, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said “We understand how important school preferences are to parents and children, and I am delighted that we have been able to offer so many parents the school they want for their child, and that every child who applied in Haringey has been offered a school place in the borough.

“With almost every primary school in Haringey now rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted, every parent can be confident that their child will receive top quality education, wherever they go to school in the borough. We’re committed to giving all young people in the borough the best start in life, including through excellent education.”

The 1% of applicants who were not offered a school of preference on their application were allocated the nearest school to their home address with an available place, the majority of these within half a mile.

Consultation on Haringey community and voluntary controlled (VC) schools term and holiday dates – 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21

TO ALL HARINGEY PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Dear Colleagues,

Haringey Council is consulting on school term and holiday dates for the following academic years: 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21. Please visit our term dates consultation page (external link) for more information and to view a copy of these proposed dates.

Under section 32 of the Education Act 2002, local authorities are responsible for determining the school term and holiday dates for community and voluntary controlled (VC) schools. The term dates for voluntary aided schools, academies, free schools and foundation schools are set by the governing bodies for those schools. However, we know that many schools that are not community do choose to follow Haringey’s term dates.

If you have any comments on the proposed dates, please email them to: schooladmissions@haringey.gov.uk with 'School term dates consultation response' in the subject line of your email.

All comments must be submitted by no later than Tuesday 23 May 2017.

Kind regards

Earlham Primary School – Adjustment to published admission number for entry in 2017

Dear Colleagues,

We have written to all relevant schools within the local area to Earlham Primary School to set out our intention to seek approval from the Schools Adjudicator to decrease the planned admission number (PAN) for Earlham Primary for the incoming Reception 2017 cohort (year of entry). This decrease will reduce the number of reception places available at the school for September 2017 from 60 places to 30 places.

Under the provisions of The School Admissions Code (2014) we are required to inform all schools within the relevant area where we propose a change to the determined admission arrangements, including a referral to the Schools Adjudicator to decrease the PAN.

We are proposing a temporary reduction in the PAN at Earlham because we expect to have sufficiency of local places for 2017 based on this reduced number.

Please let me know if you have any comments on this proposal by no later than 25 April 2017.

Reception/Junior admissions – National Offer Day 2017

Primary, Infant and Junior schools only

Offer day this year will be Tuesday 18 April 2017 (the nearest working day to 16 April), which is immediately following Easter Monday.

Preferences – Please see the attached document for the total number of Reception preferences you have received from on-time applicants for your school by planning area (including from those applicants resident outside Haringey).

Reception 2011-17 Preference info by PAs

Offers – We will send you a final offer list on the week ending the 14 April. The vast majority of parents will be notified of their school place by email and will be directed to our website to view their offer letter. This will happen at 5pm on 18 April and will be triggered by the PAN London e-admissions system. You must not release this information prior to 5pm on national offer day as it is not fair on other families waiting to hear about their school place. The call centre will be expecting to receive calls from parents on the day following national offer day.

Please be aware that in the past the Pan London eAdmissions system has experienced problems with certain email providers (Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail and BTinternet) delivering emails. To avoid this happening to you, there is an alternative way of accessing the information:

  • Parents/carers can log on to the e-admissions system with the username and password they used to make their application.
  • Download the ParentComms app to a mobile device, to receive push notifications from the eAdmissions website. Go to your app store and register your eAdmissions username and password.

After offer day we will continue to send you updated lists on a fortnightly basis as places are declined and new offers are made.

For any queries, please contact Carlo Kodsi  Carlo.Kodsi@haringey.gov.uk

In-year admissions – offer data exchange via LGFL website

To all primary school staff dealing with school admissions

You will be accustomed to receiving children’s details offered a place through the In-year admissions process via email. These are children offered a place at your school who are transferring from another school in the UK or from overseas. Thank you for continuing to work with us to ensure that these children are placed in school as quickly as possible.

I write to you today because we are embarking on a new era in how we share data with primary schools in relation to In-year admissions.

You will no longer receive children’s details in a email. Moving forward, a member of the School Admissions Team will send you details of potential pupils starting at your school in a spreadsheet via the LGFL Document Exchange support site (external link).

For Data Protection purposes, we are asking for this (already used by all primary schools for incoming Reception 2017) to be the only method of exchanging confidential information. You will also be able to manipulate the data within the spreadsheet and upload any pertinent information to us by return, for example the child’s start date.

This is a secure and reliable system in which we can be sure that our data is kept safe.

I would be grateful if you could please contact Imogen Rush if you do not already have access to the LGFL Document Exchange or if another member of staff would like access to this facility.

Please let me know if you would like a member of the Haringey School Admissions team to visit you at the school and to help you set up your account. We would also be happy to go through the process with you. You can expect to receive data as and when offers are made so it is recommended that you log on to the LGFL website (external link) each day to check to see if we have uploaded any children’s details.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me on my number below.

Many thanks for your understanding and continued support.
