Letter from the Mayor of Haringey
The Mayor of Haringey, Councillor Stephen Mann invites schools to take part in a record-breaking Laughter Yoga UK attempt at a community event on Friday 23 March at the Lordship Recreation Ground.
The Mayor wants to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote good wellbeing. The event is in support of the Mayor’s chosen charities, Mind in Haringey and Studio 306. Laughter yoga draws on traditional yoga breathing techniques and encourages relaxation, but with a focus on giggling rather than posing, it’s suitable for all. We will be attempting to set the UK record for the most people taking part in laughter yoga at the same time and everyone is invited to take part.
As well as lots of laughter, entertainment on the day will include music, community stalls, children’s activities and prizes. The Mayor will also present prizes to the winners of his recent What Makes You Happy art competition for Haringey schools.
All teachers, children and parents are welcome. Please see the flier and letter for more information.
Cllr Mann says:
"They say that laughter is the best medicine, so combining it with yoga seems like the perfect recipe for improved wellbeing. This is a great chance for us to come together as a community, learn more about mental health issues and support two exceptional local charities, whose work is helping people all across Haringey to improve their mental health. I look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the event, and to seeing whether we can set a new laughter yoga record.”
The event runs from 1.30-3pm on Friday 23 March. No previous yoga experience necessary!
