The speed limit in Haringey is 20mph (miles per hour), except for some main roads and streets managed by Transport for London.
Speed limit change to 20mph
We carried out a statutory consultation in July/August 2024 regarding the proposal to reduce the speed limit in nine roads, listed below, within the Borough from 30mph to 20mph.
Following this consultation, all objections and representations were considered including those who responded in support of the proposals. Officer responses to the objections have been summarised in a delegated report.
Considering the strong support for the proposal and the safety benefits that a lower speed limit brings, the Council has decided to proceed with the implementation of the 20mph speed limit in these streets.
The new speed limit will be introduced through the installation of appropriate signage and road markings. The installation is scheduled to commence during the week beginning 17 November 2025 and is expected to be completed by 28 November 2025. We envisage for the new speed limit to come into effect from 1 December 2025

Benefits of a 20mph speed limit
Research shows that:
- there are fewer serious road collisions when people drive at lower speeds
- driving more slowly at a steady pace reduces pollution (unless someone is in an unnecessarily low gear)
- cyclists and pedestrians feel safer on roads
- it encourages healthier ways of getting around – for example, walking and cycling
